Committed to Ongoing Education for Canadian Foot Care Nurses

Certification for Foot Care Nurses

“The Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) manages the only national nursing certification program in Canada.” Presently there exists a certification process for 19 different nursing specialty areas. (Quote from their website)

The Mission of the Canadian Association of Foot Care Nurses is to advance the practice of foot care through a collaborative and networking process for all individuals providing foot care. One of the four goals of CAFCN is to “develop educational opportunities, national guidelines, and a certification process for nursing foot care.” This will involve developing the core competencies with a bibliography for nursing foot care in Canada and this has begun with the formation of the CAFCN Education Committee at the May 30, 2010 1st AGM in Kingston, Ontario.

We expect that certification for foot care will take some time and until that process is complete CAFCN does not endorse a particular nursing foot care course as one that will lead to or guarantee certification. We have no influence over curriculum or learning outcomes of individual foot care courses.

What we DO recommend is that no matter which nursing foot care course that you have taken or will take that ALL foot care nurses make continuous learning activities a part of their ongoing nursing practice and maintain records of their learning activities as required by your provincial governing nursing body (the college or association that renews your yearly nursing license to practice).

See CNA’s website for more information about Certification. »
